Support
Forester is made by VersaMinds. If something does not work as you expect, or you would like it to do more, we want to hear about it.
Report a problem or ask for a feature
Email support@versaminds.live, or open an issue on GitHub if you are happy for others to see and follow it. Emails are answered by the people who make Forester, usually within a few working days.
Choose Help › Copy Diagnostics in Forester and paste the result into your report. It says which version you have, which kind of server you connect to and how, and the last errors, without host names, user names or passwords. An error can still name an entry, so read it before you send it. Then add:
- what you did, step by step;
- what you expected, and what happened instead;
- a screenshot, if it helps, with names covered.
Please leave names, addresses and anything else from your directory out of public issues.
Common questions
Why can I not change anything? Every connection starts read-only, so a stray click cannot change a production directory. Choose Read-only in the toolbar to allow changes for that connection.
Why does Forester ask about a certificate? Your Mac does not trust the certificate the server showed, often because your organisation's own certificate authority is not installed on this Mac. Choose Show Certificate… to check it before you trust it.
Kerberos sign-in does not work. It needs StartTLS or LDAPS, the domain controller's full DNS name as the host, and a Kerberos ticket on this Mac (from Ticket Viewer, kinit or your organisation's single sign-on).
More answers are in the FAQ. What Forester stores, and where, is in the privacy policy; who makes it is in the legal notice.
