Terms of use
Last updated 28 October 2026
These terms are between you and VersaMinds BV (details in the legal notice). They cover the Forester app and this website. Forester is free and open source, so they are short.
The licence
Forester is free software, licensed under the GNU General Public License, version 3 or later. You may use it for any purpose, study and change its source code, and share it, changed or not, under the same licence. The licence, not these terms, sets those rights, and nothing here takes any of them away.
From the Mac App Store
A copy you get from the Mac App Store is also delivered under Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which covers how Apple delivers and updates it. Your rights to Forester's source code under the GPL stay as they are.
Using it responsibly
- Use Forester only on directories you are authorised to read, and change only what you are authorised to change.
- Every connection starts read-only. When you allow changes, Forester sends exactly the changes you make; what they do to your directory, and to the systems that rely on it, is your responsibility. Try changes on a test directory first where you can.
- Keep the passwords and Kerberos tickets you use with Forester as safe as you would anywhere else.
No warranty
Forester is provided as it is, without warranty of any kind, as sections 15 and 16 of the GNU General Public License set out. To the extent the law allows, VersaMinds is not liable for damage that comes from using it, including lost or changed directory data. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, such as for intent or gross negligence, or your rights as a consumer.
Support
Help is given on a best-effort basis through the support page. It is free, and comes with no guaranteed response time.

Law and changes
These terms are governed by Belgian law. Write to us first: we would rather put it right together. If we cannot, disputes with a business go to the enterprise court of Ghent, Dendermonde division. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in and may go to the courts there; consumers in Belgium can also turn to the Consumer Mediation Service.
If the terms change, the new version is posted on this page with a new date.
